Colombia Sees Strong Growth in Electric Vehicle Sales in April, Reaching 20% of the Total Market

Amid widespread price reductions, the Colombian market experienced extremely strong growth in April, quadrupling the results from the previous year and increasing market share from 8% in April 2025 to 22% in April 2026. More than 5,900 electric vehicles were sold last month, surpassing the record reached in March and far exceeding the 1,417 units sold one year earlier.

Alongside lower prices, the push toward electric mobility has been driven by greater market diversification, with multiple options available across nearly all segments, most of them competitive with combustion-engine vehicles. However, the importance of Tesla stands out, as the brand has consolidated itself as the leader in the electric vehicle segment, accounting on its own for more than half of total sales.

The increase in electric vehicle sales will very likely maintain its momentum in the coming months due to the arrival of multiple affordable models in high-volume segments, including hatchbacks (MG4, Geely EX2) and compact SUVs (Chery E5, Dongfeng Viggo). If fuel costs also rise as a result of increasing oil prices, it is very likely that the momentum behind electric vehicles will accelerate even further.
